{"id":2009,"date":"2020-12-18T16:24:59","date_gmt":"2020-12-18T15:24:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/agil-on.com\/?page_id=2009"},"modified":"2020-12-24T18:39:54","modified_gmt":"2020-12-24T17:39:54","slug":"sap-s4-hana","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/agil-on.com\/en\/sap-s4-hana\/","title":{"rendered":"SAP S\/4 HANA"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Margin Analysis in SAP S\/4 HANA<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The SAP SE\u2019<\/span> <span class=\"s1\">development strategy for SAP S\/4 HANA Line of Business Finance focuses on three main goals: <\/span><span class=\"s1\">permanently reconciled Finance and Controlling, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">real-time-view of key business metrics, and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">accelerated financial closing and reporting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Following this strategy, the Profitability Analysis has been re-designed and extended with new features. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">As per the current SAP S\/4 HANA release 2020 there are two options available for Profitability Analysis:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>(classic) costing-based CO-PA<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">which structures the profitability report according to value fields and allows imputed valuation which does not reconcile with Financial Accounting, and<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>(new) Margin Analysis<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">which is based on account-based COPA and is fully reconciled with Financial Accounting. It supports real-time derivation of COPA and FI characteristics and so addresses the needs of both &#8211; managerial and legal reporting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Margin Analysis has evolved over the past releases, and SAP SE continues to conduct new developments in this area.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>How does Margin Analysis differ from the classic cost-based and account-based COPA?<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/agil-on.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/margin_analysis_compare.001-scaled.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2010\" src=\"http:\/\/agil-on.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/margin_analysis_compare.001-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"margin_analysis_compared\" width=\"1638\" height=\"2560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agil-on.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/margin_analysis_compare.001-scaled.jpeg 1638w, https:\/\/agil-on.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/margin_analysis_compare.001-192x300.jpeg 192w, https:\/\/agil-on.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/margin_analysis_compare.001-655x1024.jpeg 655w, https:\/\/agil-on.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/margin_analysis_compare.001-768x1200.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/agil-on.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/margin_analysis_compare.001-983x1536.jpeg 983w, https:\/\/agil-on.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/margin_analysis_compare.001-1311x2048.jpeg 1311w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1638px) 100vw, 1638px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">* Statistical conditions are supported starting from SAP S\/4 HANA 1809<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">** Starting from SAP S\/4 HANA 1809 it is possible to delay the cost of goods sold until the invoice is posted if there is a time gap between delivery and invoice with the new solution <em>SAP Revenue Accounting and Reporting<\/em> add-on<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">*** Starting from SAP S\/4 HANA 1610 there is a new functionality which allow to split COGS into multiple accounts in accordance with the relative weight of the assigned cost components. In sell-from-stock scenarios the COGS split is based on the material&#8217;s valuation price at the time of the goods issue. In drop-shipment scenarios the COGS split is based on the amount in the supplier invoice. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>How is the permanent reconciliation between Margin Analysis and Financial Accounting achieved?<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">During conversion to SAP S\/4 HANA all characteristics of the operating concern are created as columns in the universal journal and all costs elements &#8211; primary and secondary are converted to GL accounts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When a profitability analysis relevant document is posted, COPA characteristics are derived and stored along with values on GL accounts in the Universal Journal. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The relevant documents are invoices, deliveries, actual cost allocations and settlements, and eventually primary expense postings. They update actual values in the Standard Ledger(s) in the Universal Journal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The relevant documents for predicted values are sales orders. They update Extension Ledger in the Universal Journal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Universal Journal is the \u201csingle source of truth\u201d<\/span> <span class=\"s1\">for internal (managerial) and external (legal) reporting. It is the common data source for both &#8211; the Financial Income Statement and Margin Analysis reports.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>How can I apply Margin Analysis in SAP S\/4 HANA?<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The new Margin Analysis is supported by several new Fiori apps such as e.g:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Incoming Sales orders &#8211; Predictive Accounting<\/b>: analyses predicted sales order results by multiple dimensions,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Gross Margin &#8211; Presumed\/Actual<\/b>: analyses and compares predicted, actual and plan values by multiple dimensions,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Market Segments<\/b> <b>&#8211; Plan\/Actual<\/b>: analyses and compares actual and plan values by market segments,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Functional Area<\/b>s<b> &#8211; Plan\/Actual<\/b>: analyses and compares actual and plan values by functional areas,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Display Line Items &#8211; Margin Analysis<\/b>: view journal entry line items that are relevant for margin analysis.
